The Anabat Swift from Titley Scientific is based on the excellent design of the Anabat Express, but has the advantage of recording in full spectrum, as well as zero crossing. The Swift is very economical with battery usage and can run for more than 50 nights in full spectrum, on one set of eight AA batteries. Users can choose between ultrasonic sample rates of 320 or 500kHz, or lower acoustic sample rates, and data is saved onto SD card. Two SD card slots are available, allowing you to save more bat calls without changing cards. The Swift also has a built-in GPS receiver that automatically sets the clock, calculates sunset and sunrise times and records the location of the device. It will also record automatically from sunrise to sunset every night (based on GPS coordinates) as one of the automatic recording settings. It can be used to walk transects logging the track data into a GPX file and the headphone jack means that you can listen to frequency division output during the transect.
The Anabat Swift comes with a choice of omnidirectional or directional ultrasonic microphone, 1.5 metre extension lead, USB cable and a zippered carry case. An acoustic microphone is also available to purchase separately along with longer extension cables and a security box. It can also be purchased without a microphone.
The Swift is compact and robust, measuring just 182 x 119 x 43mm and weighing 400g (without batteries or microphone). It is well camouflaged and weatherproof to IP67 standards. The case opens and closes using two strong clips. The interface is user-friendly and consists of an LCD screen and single "mode" button. The unit is powered by four or eight AA batteries and there is also the option of connecting an external battery using a power cable (not included). Free version of Anabat Insight software available when purchasing an Anabat Swift.
