About this book

This book is a product of the SFBay:2K Project, the California Academy of Sciences' biotic survey of the bottom-dwelling animals in San Francisco Bay. The survey took place between 2000 and 2004, and involved Academy scientists and educators, as well as local high school teachers and students. The results of these collaborative efforts have added to our knowledge of Bay animals and illuminated many research questions.

The field guide is intended for amateur and professional naturalists, teachers, college students, scientists, and anyone else who would like to "dig a little deeper" towards understanding the animals inhabiting San Francisco Bay.
