About this book

Language: Bilingual in English and Galician

The SGHN (the Galician natural history society) has released a new atlas, the first in Galicia on two groups of Carabidae or ground beetles, and on the family Lucanidae.

This book was born of a project started many years ago that included the study of other groups of insects. The 164 pages of this book are organized in several introductory chapters on the history of the investigation of ground beetles in Galicia, the basic bioclimatology of Galicia, the outline of the work and its conclusions. Each species (the review covers twenty species) is discussed in a separate chapter that includes a map with the distribution, as deduced both from bibliographic data as well as data provided by various contributors, a brief review of its Galician, Iberian and worldwide distribution, its biology, environmental requirements, literature reviewed and tables with data available, as well as unpublished data collected from various publications. Each chapter is supplemented by an analysis of its conservation status under the criteria of the IUCN (Red Book) and a photograph of the species treated.
