About this book

Language: Catalan

Between 2012 and 2016, ornithologists from the Societat Valenciana d'Ornitologia surveyed a large part of the 515 5-kilometre squares making up the Valencian territory. These censuses were conducted to answer two basic questions: how are Valencian birds distributed, and how many individuals or pairs of each species are present in this environment? One of the most unique aspects of the atlas is that it covers all the annual periods and all the species detected in Valencia, containing distribution maps of up to 477 species of resident, migrant, summering, and wintering birds.

The atlas is an indispensable tool both to bring the knowledge of Valencian birds closer to the public and for the proper management of the territory and its biodiversity. On the one hand, it contains spatial information at a level of detail that did not exist until now and therefore provides more accurate complementary data than those in the atlases that cover wider territories. The second interesting aspect is that it is focused on the long term, and therefore a large part of the information contained in it will continue to be valid for many years. This content can help environmental administrations identify areas that should become a priority for conservation, and perhaps also to identify potential spaces for habitat restoration and recovery of the lost distribution ranges of many species.
