About this book

Language: Dutch

"Stinzenplant" is a Dutch term for root vegetables and tuberous, bulbous plants that have been imported into the Netherlands from the 16th century onwards, a close English description would be ornamental exotics. Originally they grew around castles, stronghold or villas in the province of Groningen known as borgs, and rural villas, though nowadays some of them are also growing outside of these homesteads. Well-known examples are snowdrops and spring crocuses, but it also includes winter aconites, holeworts, and wild tulips. The Basisgids Stinzenplanten brings together all plants in this groups that are found in the Netherlands, with an aim at field identification. The emphasis is on the handsome and details colour photos, which are supplemented with clear descriptions. The book also contains plenty of background information on the history, ecology and distribution of this group.
