The Calliphoridae are a widespread genus of flies whose larvae are obligatory blood-sucking parasites of nestling birds. This study describes the North American representatives of the genus Protocalliphoridae, and recognizes 26 species. It gives a species by species account of distribution, life history, host relations, ecology, collecting and control, and includes an appendix of the 137 species of birds known as hosts.
