This final publication by John V Moore Nature Recordings of bird vocalizations from Ecuador culminates over 20 years of work commencing with the publication of the 80-minute cassette Sounds of la Selva in 1993. In this new publication we combine all of our previous 11 publications with almost 3000 new recordings into a single DVD containing 9670 separate recordings from 1501 species (1800 taxa). Included are the sounds of nearly all the birds inhabiting the continental part of the country of Ecuador, an incredibly diverse area which provides a variety of life zones, from the dry Tumbesian and wet Chocoan regions on the Pacific coast through the towering Andes to the verdant Amazon Basin. Not included are vocalizations from birds of the Galapagos Islands or from casual visitors and rare migrant species.
The DVD also contains a digital booklet with detailed recording data and other pertinent information in WORD, PDF and EXCEL formats. The recordings have no verbal announcements, are in MP3 format, and the files are labeled (tagged) with embedded metadata allowing searches for particular recordings on multi-media organizing software such as iTunes and mobile devices such as iPod, iPhone, smartphone or tablet.
