It retains the layout and approach of the original but also includes additional information about the family as a whole, as well as extended and revised species accounts. In all, 276 species are described (compared to 256 in the first edition) and their identification is made easy by the extensive keys, which incorporate over 640 line drawings. The 12 superb colour plates by Steven Falk show 263 specimens depicting 190 different species.
