About this book

What the environmental movement really needs is a hard-travelling, blissfully ignorant comedian with no credibility whatsoever to talk on serious issues.

On the principle of 'go on, do it, I will' non-expert Mark Watson set up a blog announcing his intentions to halve his carbon footprint in a year. Within 24 hours, 500 had joined him. This is the story of the year that followed, when one environmental novice, green you could say in all senses of the word, tried to save the planet.

'A quirky, irreverent take on the green lifestyle ... an accessible antidote to the flood of more worthy environmental titles already available ... in comical, self-depreciating style' - The Bookseller.

'[One of] the new green heroes.' - Sunday Times

'Packed with brilliant observations and sharp one-liners' - The Times

Mark Watson is one of the UK's most talked-about stand-up comedians. He has won and been nominated for many awards, most recently Time Out Critics Choice (2006), the if.comeddies Panel Prize for the Edinburgh Fringe (2006), Barry Award for Outstanding Show at the Melbourne Festival (2006), Times/South Bank Breakthrough Award (2006) and Perrier Best Newcomer Award (2005). His Radio 4 series 'Mark Watson Makes the World Substantially Better' aired in Spring 2007. Mark is renowed in comedy circles for having performed four marathon stand-up shows - lasting 24, 33, 36 and 24 hours - the last of which had an environmental theme and involved planting trees in Edinburgh and cycle races in the Meadows. His fiction debut, Bullet Points, was published in 2004: 'simply a great novel, full stop.' (Matt Thorne)
