About this book

Language: Dutch

The Biesbosch is natural park in the Netherlands and one of the last extensive areas of freshwater tidal wetlands in Northwestern Europe. Over the last few centuries it was slowly converted to polders, but nowadays the river and tide have been allowed back and nature is returning – and all this very close to an ever-expanding Randstad, the economical hub of the country. Here, ospreys hover over meandering gullies, and majestic white-tailed eagles chase off groups of geese. Beavers construct dams, and it is only a matter of time before the otter and the sturgeon return.

De Nieuwe Biesbosch is a beautiful tribute to this unique piece of recovering river delta. Thomas van der Es, better known as Warden Thomas, shares his experiences working here in a lively style, while Stef den Ridder contributes breathtaking drawings.
