About this book

Language: English

The monographic treatment of the Cercosporella/Ramularia complex is continued with the present second volume. It provides an up-to-date, world-wide coverage of the taxonomy and nomenclature of Ramularia and the allied genera Ramulariopsis, Phacellium, Neoovularia, Pseudodidymaria, Neoramularia, Monodidymaria and Tretovularia. Some Ramularia-like species of the dematiaceous genera Mycovellosiella, Stenella, Passalora and Phaeoramularia are described and illustrated in order to elucidate the delimitation between these genera and Ramularia. The hyphomycetes concerned are phytopathogenic, at least weakness parasites, and represent, as far as known, anamorphs of Mycosphaerella. Numerous species cause economically important plant diseases.

All general aspects of these fungi are treated in the introductory chapters of the first volume. Special emphasis is put on morphology, conidiogenesis and classification. Biology, ecology, teleomorphs and control are briefly discussed. Additional chapters deal with allied dematiaceous hyphomycetes, related coelomycetes, superficially similar anamorphs of smut fungi and mucedinaceous hyperparasitic hyphomycetes with holoblastic conidiogenesis. The applied species concept is also discussed in vol. 1 of this monograph. The representation and arrangement of genera and species and the preparation of the keys agree with the principles outlined in the first volume. The present key to the genera has been slightly improved. If not otherwise stated, lecto- and neotypifications have been proposed in the present monograph for the first time. A quick, easy access to the species treated in this monograph is provided by a special „host/fungus index with keys". The host genera are alphabetically arranged under their particular plant families and all fungal species are listed or keyed out. "Additions and corrections to vol. 1" are added
