About this product

The Browning Strike Force Pro XD is a specialised camera designed with two lenses; one lens optimised to take sharp photos and videos in daylight and another lens that takes clear photographs in low light or night conditions. This camera takes 24MP images and records in full HD video (1920 x 1080p) onto an SD card (up to 512GB SDXC memory cards supported). Its lightning fast 0.15s trigger speed and impressive 0.5s recovery time will ensure you never miss a moment.

This camera has a compact design compared to most other trail cameras allowing it to sit comfortably in the palm of your hand. It utilises a passive infrared (PIR) sensor that activates the camera whenever motion is sensed within its monitoring range. The camera records images and videos in full colour during the day and records in black and white at night using low glow infrared LEDs which provide a near invisible illumination of up to 36m.

A key feature of this camera is the internal 3.80cm (1.5”) colour screen that is accessible via a front facing panel, enabling you to change settings and review footage without removing the camera. You can capture up to 8 multishot images and 8 rapid-fire images as well as set a time-lapse with the Strike Force XD's Timelapse Plus camera mode. The delay between pictures is adjustable (between 1 second to 1 hour) and the picture info bar shows time, date, temperature, moon phase, barometric pressure and camera ID. Additional features include SD card management options and a Smart IR Video setting that allows the camera to continue recording wildlife during the daytime for up to 5 minutes. Power is supplied by 6 x AA batteries.

This camera is also available as a starter bundle that includes the trail camera, 8 x lithium AA batteries and a 32GB SD card.

Note: Although rechargeable batteries (of at least 2500mAh) can be used with trail cameras, they are not recommended due to their lower capacity and voltage. Therefore they are unlikely to operate the camera at its full potential, or as reliably when compared with standard Lithium batteries. If the use of rechargeable batteries is necessary we recommend Panasonic Eneloop Pro batteries which have been shown to perform well with trail cameras. Additionally, we recommend using an SD card with a minimum write speed of 10MB/s (also labelled as U1 or class 10).

  • I'm happy with this camera.
By James 6 Jul 2021 Written for Starter Bundle
The Browning range of cameras is quite confusing. I picked this camera as it seems to do everything I want, rather than spending ages researching the differences. I'm happy with my choice, though the camera could be improved in several ways:
    1) although you can take 2-minute videos during the day, the night time limit is 20 seconds. This is to conserve the batteries – I guess the IR is power-hungry? It would be nice if this could be over-ridden, but it can't. You can however set a delay of 1 second between videos, so it will keep on recording if there is still movement, so I can stitch the videos back together, though there will be 1-second gaps.
    2) the bottom of the camera isn't flat – there is a ridge around the case opening. This means the camera won't screw on to some tripods.
    3) the tree mount has about 20 degrees of play, so if your tree is vertical, you can point the camera to anything between horizontal and 20 degrees down. However, if your tree is sloping towards your target, the camera will always be pointing down, unless you add wedges between the tree and the camera.
    4) the tree mount has holes for a security cable, but as the tree mount can be unscrewed from the camera, this seems pointless. Maybe the security cable is only useful if you get a security box too?
    5) there is some noise on the sound when video recording. Not sure if this is wind or just noise.
    6) Although the camera has a fast 0.15 s start-up time, animals (hedgehogs) appear in the middle of the frame when videoing, rather than walking into the frame. The picture has quite a wide aspect ratio, so maybe the field of view is wider than the motion detector range?
Despite these quibbles, the camera is easy to use and takes good pictures and videos, day and night.
