About this book

This first supplemental volume of the Catalogue of Palaearctic Heteroptera contains corrections and additions to the existing five volumes, which appeared within little more than a decade between 1995 and 2006. This achievement was the first complete listing of Palaearctic Heteroptera since the work by V.F. Oshanin was published almost a century ago.

The number of species listed from the Palaearctic Region increased from 8571 to 9365 in the period between the publication of the original five volumes (1995-2006) and 2012. In this period 851 new species were described from the region: 52 from Europe, 21 from North Africa and 778 from Asia.

The arrangement of the catalogue is explained on pages ix-xv of volume one. To help users, abbreviations of depositories of type material, distributional abbreviations and the subdivisions of Russia and China are repeated in each volume including this one. Data from literature up to and including 2011 are included. Information available only on the internet was not used. For new country records, references are given. Some additional unpublished records are included with a reference to the source (collector or collection). References to volumes 1-5 are given as CPH1-5 followed by a page number.

This is the first and last supplementary volume to the Catalogue of Palaearctic Heteroptera. Data from all six volumes are currently being transferred into a database and will be made freely available via the World Wide Web. Future updates will be made on a regular basis by the editors with the help of former authors and the next generation of heteropterists.
