About this book

Language: German with bilingual abstract and species diagnoses in German and English

The Erdbach limestone occupy a special position within the Kulm facies at the time of the middle Mississippian. While predominantly hostile conditions prevailed in the basins, very rich faunas developed on deep sills above Devonian reef ruins and sites of volcanic eruptions. These locally limited occurrences are characterized by highly diverse and predominantly endemic trilobite faunas. After nearly 130 years of exploration, the trilobites of the classical localities in the Erdbach area (Hesse) are revised or described here. In addition, the trilobite fauna of the "Phillipsien Bank" in the Warstein area (North Rhine-Westphalia) and the subfamily Cystispininae are reinterpreted.

new genera are proposed: Erdbachaspis n. gen., Amphiroaspis n. gen., Liebsteinella n. gen., and Xylomelon n. gen. In addition, 26 new species or subspecies are described from the different localities. The species diagnoses are also written in English and thus make it easier for the international reader to access this volume.
