In 1990 some of the South's most eminent thinkers produced an influential report called `The Challenge to the South'. Three years later, this new volume responds to that report and its ideas on self-reliant and people-centred development, South/South cooperation, and new proposals for managing the system, subjecting them to constructive reflection and criticism.
