Disterigma is a neotropical genus in the blueberry family which grows in the cloud forests and p#ramos of Central and South America. The shrubs bear relatively inconspicuous flowers, are typically small in stature, and have diverse growth forms.
There are 32 recognized species of Disterigma, 26 of which inhabit the mountains of Colombia and Ecuador. In this monograph five species are described as new to science, seven names are placed into synonymy, and changes are made in the circumscription and nomenclature of three of the most widespread species of Disterigma. Photographs, illustrations, and distribution maps accompany the species descriptions. Dichotomous keys to all the taxa are provided, as are lists of specimens examined.
