Rogers applies social theories to the way we view the natural world, and finds that Western humans have made a new `last frontier' at the edge of town, where the trees - or oceans - begin. He argues that globalisation is creating a world where no community is recognisable except as a financial resource, and warns that a recognition and respect of communities, not money, is the only means to an environmentally viable social future.
