More than 600 samples from Västergötland and the isle of Öland, covering the Agnostus pisiformes up to the Peltura scarabaeoides zone, have been examined for conodonts. The fauna comprises 73 species of 20 genera. It yields highly differentiated elements such as the ramiform Serratocambria and the pectiniform Cambropustula, the latter being the oldest known conodontophorid. The genera Furnishina and Westergaardodina have not only the greatest number of species but also of individual representatives. The genus Proscandodus has been abolished and the according taxa reclassified. The occurrence of individual conodont taxa has been correlated with the trilobite-based zonal stratigraphy. The fauna is being discussed under various geological and biological aspects, supplemented by detailed systematic studies including instraspecific variability as well as morphogenesis during growth of the animal.
Newly established genera are: Bengtsonella, Cambropustula, Gumella, Serratocambria and Trolmenia. New species are: Bengtsonella triangularis, Cambropustula kinnekullensis, Furnishina curvata, F. gladiata, F. gossmannae, F. kleithria, F. kranzae, F.
mira, F. ovata, F. sinuata, F. vasmerae, Gumella cuneata, Muellerodus guttulus, M. subsymmetricus, Nogamiconus falcifer, Phakelodus simplex, Problematoconites angastus, P. asymmetricus, Prosagittodontus minimus, Serratocambria minuta, Trolmenia acies, Westergaardodina ahlbergi, W. auris, W. behrae, W. calix, W. communis, W. concamerata, W. curvata, W. excentrica, W. latidentata, W. ligula, W. polymorpha, W. procera, and W. prominens.
