About this book

Language: German

"One recognizes it because that one can not see it" – this famous 20th century description of the Northern Goshawk by zoologist Oskar Heinroth is still valid. It indicates the behavior of this shy bird which has its natural habitat in the forest and in hunting exploits the element of surprise. However, there are changes afoot in the world of hawks: by immigration into different cities this bird of prey is increasingly "out of hiding" – with some luck you can even meet it in green urban areas and parks. Still, the hawk is exposed to unjust and illegal persecution by humans. To draw attention to this state of affairs, and call for the protection of birds of prey, the German nature protection agency NABU and the Landesbund für Vogelschutz in Bayern (LBV) have declared the Northern Goshawk to be the bird of 2015. This book seeks to contribute to this campaign. The present work has emerged from the observations on Northern Goshawks by the four authors, done over many years. It shows the hawk in fantastic shots in its natural environment with many explanatory descriptions and provides detailed information on lifestyle and behavior of the species. The course of the year from the perspective of hawks is described and special observations and situations are described. Thus, with text an images this book offers you the information you need to recognize the Northern Goshawk next time you see it.
