About this book

Language: Spanish

This book is a first effort and a first synthesis of advancements in research on biodiversity in managed landscapes in Mesoamerica. It is the current only work of its kind written in Spanish, which makes it a basic referent for any biodiversity conservation studies in fragmented landscapes to be carried out in the region.

Every chapter successfully integrates the data collected on the field with theoretical insights of Conservation Biology, Ecology, Sociology, Economics, as well as landscape management and conservation. This work also shows how our present knowledge about biodiversity in fragmented landscapes goes beyond the traditional approaches.

The book has 21 chapters, written by over 50 top-level researchers working throughout the Mesoamerican region. It is based on various presentations made during the Symposium Biodiversity Assessment and Conservation in Fragmented Landscapes in Mesoamerica. The meeting was held during the 7th Congress of the Mesoamerican Society for Biology and Conservation in Chiapas, Mexico, in November 2003. Some of the chapters were written by invited authors, so as to offer a more complete discussion on the subject.
