About this book

This installment in the Flora Neotropica combines three volumes in one physical volume.

Volum 111: I. Lellingeria – This work presents a taxonomic treatment of Lellingeria, one of the largest genera of grammitid ferns in the Neotropics. It is represented by 49 species, which grow primarily as epiphytes in tropical forests at high elevations. Lellingeria is especially diverse in the Andes but it is also well represented in the mountains of Central America, the Guyana/Venezuelan Shield, the Antilles, and the Atlantic Forest of Brazil.

Volume 112: II. Melpomene – A systematic revision of the fern genus Melpomene is presented. In total, 29 neotropical species and 10 varieties are recognized. The ecologically diverse genus is distributed in Mesoamerica, the Caribbean, and tropical South America, with one disjunction to Africa, Madagascar, and the Mascarenes. The species occur at 400-5200 m elevation in varied habitats from semideserts to moist punas, but clearly prefer cloud forests and elfin forests at 2000-4000 m. Several natural groups are morphologically and phylogenetically recognized and discussed.

Volume 113: III. Alansmia – A taxonomic monograph is presented of the genus Alansmia including 25 species and 2 varieties. These ferns are found predominantly in montane forests but are also present in lowland forests and páramos, growing as epiphytes hanging mostly from mossy tree trunks, tree ferns, and palms, or on rocks, and sometimes on soil on embankments. The genus is primarily neotropical; only two species are known from Africa and the Mascarene Islands.
