About this book

Language: French

The sites of Khnifiss and M'diq, Morocco, were studied in a multidisciplinary approach between June 1997 and March 2003. In the south Atlantic, the lagoon of Khnifiss is a mesotidal site managed mainly by the tides. The hydrodynamic study showed the alternating two-way nature of the water circulation inside the lagoon. Zonation was established according to the trophic capacity and hydrological parameters, and shows that the lagoon of Khnifiss is conducive to shellfish farming; Nevertheless, the installation of any aquaculture project in this Ramsar-listed lagoon must take into account its ecological balance. The Bay of M'diq opens into Mediterranean offshore waters, with a strong exchange with the Atlantic Ocean to the north and the characteristics of a Mediterranean climate (rainfall, storm, wind ...), which are all key factors in its mode of operation and the successful animal rearing in this site. The variability of hydrological parameters and the low richness of this area in nutrients and chlorophyll-a reflects the trophic status of this site.
