About this book

Language: German

The Alpstein are a subgroup of the Appenzell Alps in Switzerland. The fact that the Alpstein consists almost exclusively of remnants of marine organisms is not obvious at first glance. This book draws attention to the numerous tracks along the wayside around the Säntis, the Altmann, the Wildkirchli or the Hohen Kasten. Editors Peter Kürsteiner and Christian Klug present the first comprehensive overview of the fossil world of the Alpstein. Together with 24 experts, they portray the most important groups of fossils, which attentive people can easily discover by themselves while exploring the Alpstein. The book also provides an overview of the geology of the alpine stone, explaining the origin, conservation and occurrence of fossils, and providing information on the state of regional research into living organisms and living environments in the geological past. In the main part, the individual genera and species are listed and discussed according to groups of animals.
