About this book

Language: Bilingual in English and Spanish

This book is the result of 26 years of monitoring and observation, by the authors of this book, of the golden eagle population in the Andalusian Betic mountain ranges. Its pages describe, by way of results, how the abandonment of the field by humans and the application of a series of conservation measures (reduction of electrocution and reduction of direct persecution through the reduction of hunting and cases of poisoning), have benefited this population of golden eagles in southern Spain, increasing their population and expanding their breeding range from their old mountain refuges to human-dominated habitats. However, this changing scenario is having consequences for some of the protected species to which the applied mitigation measures were initially directed. In turn, this new and positive dynamic is also posing new and uncertain threats to golden eagles in these novel environments, where questions are being raised such as to what extent will golden eagles continue to occupy human-dominated landscapes, and what prices will they pay to survive?
