About this book

Language: English with German summaries

Volume 8 contains three papers:

The Acronictinae of Sumatra (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae, Acronictinae)
This part of the Heterocera Sumatrana series deals with the subfamily of the Acronictinae in the lepidopterous family of the Noctuidae. Six genera comprising 11 species are reported from Sumatra. One taxon was raised in its rank (Thalatha ioleuca A. E. Prout, stat. rev.). The arrangement follows Holloway (1989), but at the same time pays credit to the works of Japanese colleagues.

The Heliothinae of Sumatra (Lepidoptera, Noctuidae, Heliothinae)
The Noctuid subfamily of the Heliothinae in Sumatra contains 6 distinctly differing species attributed to 3 genera: Helicoverpa Hardwick 1965, Australothis Matthews 1991, and Adisura Moore 1881. Australothis hackeri spec. nov is introduced to science.

The Plusiinae of Sumatra (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae, Plusiinae)
This part of the Heterocera Sumatrana series deals with the subfamily Plusiinae of the family Noctuidae. 13 genera including 28 species are known from Sumatra including two new species. Acanthoplusia kobesi spec. nov is decribed in this contribution. The other new species (Thysanoplusia aureopicta) will be described by Dr. L. Ronkay and G. Behounek in the near future in a revision of the Genus Thysanoplusia. Four more species are new for the Sumatran fauna. The genitalia of some species are figured for the first time.
