Segregation of recyclable waste from general waste is necessary to optimise resource recovery. Recyclable waste may originate from different places, including hospitals. This recyclable hospital waste may be contaminated and pose health hazards, so must be pretreated before recycling.
This book is a survey of the current situation of hospital waste management and management issues in one of the developing countries. This book indicates the importance of involvement of hospital administration and the government in introducing the appropriate policy of waste management for hospital waste in order to minimise health risks. In comparison to hospital waste management systems from other developed and developing countries, the system in the study area is weak where it concerns providing the appropriate hazard-awareness trainings for those involved in the waste stream. In this book, the author introduces the basis of the solid waste and hospital waste management systems and management practices, and recommends some adoptable solutions, based onfield surveys and questionnaires.
