About this book

Language: Spanish

What does it mean to be human? Until recently, it meant to belong to our species Homo sapiens. Other older and archaic forms, such as Homo erectus or the Neanderthals, although included in the genus Homo, were seen from a distance and without the basic attributes associated with the concept of being human. Today, the advancement of science has again called into question concepts that were almost absolute, because we know that just one hundred thousand years ago at least five human species coexisted, each with its own cultural heritage. When asked "what is man", science confronts us with a preliminary question: "what man are you talking about?" The anatomically modern humans: Homo sapiens? Are we talking about Homo floresiensis? Or do we talk about the Neanderthals? Our sapient humanity might be only a subset of the human potential. To answer these questions, Antonio Rosas reviews the fossil record and wonders what it is and how the genus Homo evolved, which is, by definition, the human race.
