A first atlas of nesting birds in the French departments of Nord and Pas-de-Calais was published in 1995. Le Groupe Ornithologique et Naturaliste du Nord here provides a completely updated atlas, thanks to observations collected by its members during a project that ran from 2009 to 2016. This book offers a general presentation of Nord and Pas-de-Calais, departments which contain many interesting areas for birds: coastal environments, marshes and wetlands, agricultural landscapes, forest massifs, and, of course the industrial landscape.

Each of the 176 breeding bird species is the subject of a detailed entry with: distribution, habitats, evolution of the population, conservation, and life history traits. The distribution of these species is presented through maps (distribution map and abundance levels) and very practical information for the experts is collected in a table (including a summary of global, European, French and regional populations for each species).

It is important to highlight the quality of the photographs that illustrate the book; they have all been produced in the region by talented photographers.

Un premier atlas des oiseaux nicheurs du Nord-Pas de Calais avait été publié en 1995… Le Groupe Ornithologique et Naturaliste du Nord nous propose un atlas entièrement actualisé, grâce à une campagne d’observations menée par les membres de l’association entre 2009 et 2016. Ce livre offre une présentation générale du Nord et du Pas de Calais, territoire qui recèle de nombreuses zones intéressantes pour les oiseaux : milieux littoraux, marais et zones humides, paysages agricoles, massifs forestiers, sans oublier les paysages industriels …

Chacune des 176 espèces d’oiseaux nicheurs fait l’objet d’une monographie : répartition, habitats, évolution des effectifs, conservation, traits de vie. La distribution de ces espèces est présentée à travers des cartes (carte de présence et niveaux d’abondance) et des informations très pratiques pour les experts sont rassemblées dans un tableau (notamment une synthèse des effectifs mondiaux, européens, français et régionaux est présentée pour chaque espèce).

Il faut souligner la qualité des photographies qui illustrent le livre, elles ont toutes été réalisées au sein même de la région par des photographes talentueux.
