Fundacion ProAves

Columbian conservation group Fundacion ProAves was founded in 1998 out of a conservation project to save the yellow-eared parrot and its habitats.

The project is one of Latin America’s most successful conservation stories - yellow-eared parrot numbers climbed from a low of 81 in 1999 to around 1,500 in 2012.

Fundacion ProAves publishes many books on Columbia’s birds, among them the Field Guide to the Birds of Colombia, in English, and the Checklist to the Birds of Columbia 2008/Listado de Aves de Colombia 2008, in English and Spanish.

In 2013 Columbia reached an ornithological landmark and became the first country where 1,900 bird species had been recorded.
