About this book

Language: Chinese with scientific name index

The Asian elephant is subject of national wildlife protection, and is currently only distributed in a few areas such as Xishuangbanna, Pu'er, Lincang, etc., they number only 200 to 250 individuals, and are extremely rare and endangered. The increasing use of land is threatening their distribution and Asian elephant habitat has become fragmented islands. Exchange between populations has been severely hampered, and their survival is seriously threatened. This book looks at the population biology and the effects of fragmentations on the distribution of the Asian elephant in China. It also discusses habitat quality assessment as well as a comprehensive system of community surveys conducted using modern technology, and the planning, design, construction and management of the six Chinese Asian elephant conservation areas and road corridors.
