The Slam Trap is designed either to stand on the ground or to be suspended in the air. Several Slam Traps can also be suspended in a vertical chain in order to survey at different heights simultaneously.
The Slam Trap consists of a framework of shock-corded poles to which the netting trap clips. The four cross baffles mean that wind direction and sunlight exposure are much less important when positioning this trap. A collecting bottle at the apex of the trap collects insects that migrate upwards, and if trays of preservative are placed beneath the trap it can also be used as a flight interception trap. It has a ventilation window on the collecting head which helps to optimise catch and also provided is a removable moth excluder at the collecting head entrance to prevent the entry of large insects.
The single-headed version of this trap is available as a standard or large version and has one collecting bottle, therefore all insects which are intercepted by the trap will be collected into this single bottle. The four-headed trap is available as a large version and has four collecting bottles allowing specimens which hit the trap from four different directions to be maintained in separate bottles.
A bottom collector (sold separately) can be tied underneath the trap to collect flying insects that drop when hitting a barrier. This is compatible with the Standard Slam Trap only.
