The Sparrow block can be used above ground level in external property walls, boundary walls and landscaping. Ideally it should be positioned facing North or East, out of direct sunlight away from windows, vents, and predator access. It should be sited at least 3m (10ft) from the ground. Designed to fit flush in a wall or to render up to the entrance cavity, or surface mount to wall. For exterior mounting a fixing kit is available separately here. House sparrows nest in loose colonies, and so two or three boxes can be installed on the same side of the house. Avoid placing in areas where house martins normally nest.
House Sparrow numbers in the UK have rapidly declined in recent years to half of their original recorded numbers and have been placed on the red list as a species of high conservation concern. Providing artificial habitat is advised by the RSPB as an important way to help build colony numbers.
PLEASE NOTE: Fixings for external mounting are not included, but may be purchased separetely here.
