About this book

This book provides an updated classification of the family Tarsonemidae (Acari: Prostigmata: Heterostigmata) at the generic and familial level, with keys to subfamiles, tribes and genera of the world. An analysis ofthe zoogeographical distribution of world genera is presented. The systematic catalogue provides infonnation for 529 species and 19 subspecies belonging to 8 tribes and 40 genera in three subfamilies of the Tarsonemidae known up to October 2002. Genera and species are arranged alphabetically. For each taxon, the following infonnation is provided: (1) names or synonyms, (2) bibliographic information and (3) annotated notes, with emphasis on information concerning type data, taxonomic changes, hosts/habitats and geographical distribution. Valid species names, synonyms, host plants and host animals are indexed.
