The first section of this book is devoted to the seminal work of the Norwegian philosopher Arne Naess, which has played a central role in the deep ecology movement. The rest of the book includes contributions from Joanna Macy, Bill Devall, David Rothenberg, Freya Matthews and Gary Snyder, and deals with issues ranging from the values inherent in nature and sustainable practices to critiques of the `shallow' ecology movement and industrial models.
