About this book

This will be the first published flora of the vascular plants of this Irish county, the most westerly in Northern Ireland. It is based on surveys carried out between 1975-2010 by the authors, who are joint county recorders, and incorporates the results of surveys by other conservation agencies over the same period. The Ferrmanagh data base compiled by the authors contain over a quarter of a million plant records for 1146 species plus 70 hybrids and varieties from over 4600 sites within the area. Nomenclature follows Stace II and BSBI standard names.

The overall aim has been to describe and interpret the occurence of vascular plant species in Fermanagh. Whilst providing record details for rarer species, for others it includes interesting aspects ranging from reproductive biology, dispersal and preferred growing conditions. Taxa are described and illustrated with tetrad maps, and distribution is also compared with other regions in N. Ireland and GB. Introductory chapters cover geology, climate, soils, and many other pertinent topics such as conservation designation. There is a gazetteer and bibliography.
