About this book

Summarises the results of years of collecting in which the occurrence was established of more than 530 species of the 5 main classes. All are pictured on 44 plates with colour photos, the small species in SEM photos. The book contains also more than 200 original drawings of species and 10 colour plates with 28 photos of field situations, fishery methods, traps, and egg masses of some gastropods. The species accounts give scientific, English and local names, descriptions, abundance, ecological notes, localities where the species were found and human use. The general text gives notes about the physical characteristics of the area, the habitats, an overview of the local mollusc fauna, a general introduction in taxonomy and nomenclature, collecting, storing, and identifying. There are a checklist, indices for scientific and English vernacular names, bibliography, extensive glossary and a map of the area indicating the locality names used in the species accounts.
