About this book

Among the most captivating of creatures, the mountain hare has inhabited Britain's upland landscape since the last major ice age. Andy Howard fell in love with these shy, charming creatures at first sight. Here he introduces them both as a species precious within the great wheel of the seasons, and as individuals with their own, delightful personalities. Foreword from Welsh conservationist and TV presenter Iolo Williams.

– Winner of the Favourite Scottish Nature Photography Book, 2018

"[...] If it's mountain hares you're after, then this is the book for you! [...] Howard's passion for mountain hares is apparent in both his stunning photographs, which adorn nearly every one of the book's 200 pages, and his words, which take the reader on a journey through the seasons and highlight the plight of this heavily persecuted species."
Scottish Wildlife 96, November 2018

"Not so much a monograph as an illustrated love-letter to the charismatic upland lagomorph, this slender but intimate tome is a passport to an austerely beautiful world. [...]"
BBC Wildlife, October 2018

"A book that captures beautifully the characterand charm of this enchanting British species."
– Kate Humble
