About this book

Language: English

From the foreword:

"Fungi are heterotrophs which flourish in various terrestrial, aquatic, freshwater and marine environments. They are saprophytic, parasitic or pathogenic and are able to proliferate on materials originated from animal, plant and human origin. Fungal diversity is immense and its loss may cause lasting damage to the complex network of life. It is one of the prospective candidates of biological diversity, omnipresent in the environment and has attracted much attention from researchers and academicians due to their vital role in human welfare.

Odisha is naturally endowed with rich biodiversity in its unique habitats like the brackish waters of Chilika lake, mangrove forests of Bhitarkanika, nesting beaches of Gahirmatha to Olive Ridley turtles, dry deciduous to moist green forests of Similipal Biosphere Reserve and Gandhamardan hills known for their rich source of medicinal plants.

The Regional Plant Resource Centre, Bhubaneswar has worked on different aspects of microbiology, especially documentation and conservation of fungi. The present scientific work aims towards inventorization of fungal diversity in Subarnarekha mangrove ecosystem of Odisha."
