About this book

Language: German with English summaries and bilingual figure captions in English and German

The ringing of birds is still one of the most important methods for the study of bird migration. In Germany, birds have been ringed for more than 100 years. Since then, about 20 million animals have provided more than one million datapoints. What has been missing until now was a summary of the findings. The Atlas des Vogelzugs fills this gap by bringing together for the first time a comprehensive and clear picture of the data from the three German ringing centres in numerous maps and succinct text. The findings of birds ringed in Germany and those found with foreign rings, reveal the migration and overwintering areas of birds breeding in this country, as well as the origins of birds that use Germany either as stopover or overwintering area. This book also forms an appreciation of the work of the many volunteers involved, whose contributions have been invaluable to bird research.
