About this book

The Indian Ocean Biodiversity Assessment 2000 to 2005 reviewed the biogeography of the Seychelles islands through systematic collecting of all taxonomic groups under a Memorandum of Understanding with the Seychelles government and 87 expert taxonomists from 20 different countries. This is one of several volumes in a series of faunal monogrpahs in which the results are documented. This volume covers the Crustacea and several low-diversity phyla including Platyhelminthes (flatworms), Nematoda (round worms), Nemertea (ribbon worms), Annelida (worms), Rotifera (wheel animals) and Tardigrada (water bears).

All 237 species known to occur in the Seychelles are represented, with distribution data and their conservation status according to the IUCN Red List criteria (IUCN 2001). Several nomenclatorial changes are proposed and two new genera and seven new species are described. This compiled volume includes contributions from leading experts on the relevant groups and includes chapters from scientists in Hungary, Italy, USA, Seychelles, France and Australia. The book is richly illustrated throughout with 98 photos and 175 line illustrations, which support the taxonomic keys and systematic descriptions. The book is fully referenced throughout.
