About this book

Language: German

The range of the White-tailed Eagle in Europe extends from Scandinavia to the Balkans and to the Urals. In Central Europe, this distinctive bird was found in all suitable habitats. Until well into the last century they were hunted, shot and caught in traps, their eggs robbed, and their young removed. Soon enough there were nature lovers who fought to protect the eagle. Slowly several breeding pairs had again become established when the first edition of the volume by Wolfgang Fischer appeared. The books is now in its fourth edition, and the author is able to point out the good results in the development of the stock figures of animals due to protective measures. However, the intensive study of the animals has also brought new insights. The volume describes primarily the northern Eurasian form, while the forms occurring in the New World, Africa and Asia are treated in accordance with our knowledge, as well many personal observations of the animals that were made by the author both in the wild and in the aviary of the Tierpark Berlin.
