Helen has lived in Ireland with her husband Val for the past thirty-eight years, where her garden in Dublin is open to the public and has been featured in magazines worldwide. She has taken extensive plant expeditions to places such as Nepal, Patagonia, New Zealand, South Africa, and China and has lectured widely in the UK and the United States. In 1999 Helen was awarded the Gold Veitch Memorial Medal of the Royal Horticultural Society in England and in 2003 the George Robert White Medal of Honor of the Massachusetts Horticultural Society.
