About this book

Language: German

Connected to each other in a linear fashion, the caves of Austria that have so far been explored would be reach from Vienna to Madrid. Höhlen und Karst in Österreich gives a unique insight into these fascinating underground landscapes, which are, for the most part, difficult to access.

For the first nationwide survey of the Austrian karst and cave studies, the editors were able to draw on the contributions of 49 experienced cave explorers and scientists. Thirty-five contributed chapters provide general information about the current status of geology and biology, history of exploitation and culture, as well as research technology and documentation of the Austrian caves. In 20 regional chapters, all major karst areas from the Rätikon, a mountain range of the Central Eastern Alps, to the edge of the Vienna basin are presented.
