The Moravian Karst, Czech Republic, is the most developed karst area with the greatest number of surface and underground karst phenomena. A number of guides, extensive descriptive monographs (both popular and specialist), photographic publications and thousands of brochures and articles have been written about the Moravian Karst. Still, new contexts and insights are emerging in many fields. Cave explorers discover new caves or parts of already known caves, archives containing often neglected historical documents, maps and photographs. Moravský Kras: V Ponorné Řece Času carries readers from the beginning of its creation to the present. It covers milestones, historical facts and the tireless work of several generations of scholars. It also presents a number of unpublished or little published materials.

Moravský kras je naše nejlépe vyvinuté krasové území s největším počtem povrchových a podzemních krasových jevů. Zároveň patří k výjimečným oblastem České republiky s bohatou historií a kulturou. Malebná krajina protkaná hlubokými kaňony je útočištěm širokého spektra živočichů a rostlin a byly zde popsány mnohé endemity. Nepatrnému dílu naší republiky severně od Brna se řada autorů věnovala (slovem i obrazem) po několik staletí. Byli to mastičkáři, duchovní, umělci, historici, speleologové, geografové, geologové či odborníci dalších vědních disciplín. O Moravském krasu tak vznikla řada průvodců, obsáhlých popisných populárních i odborných monografií, fotografických publikací a tisíce separátů, brožur a článků. Přesto se stále vynořují nové souvislosti a poznatky v mnoha oborech. Jeskynní badatelé zde objevují nové jeskyně nebo části jeskyní již známých, v archivech jsou uloženy mnohdy opomíjené historické dokumenty, mapy či fotografie.
