About this book

Language: Polish with English summary (66 pp.)

This book is the first national atlas of breeding birds in Poland. Detailed maps, showing distribution are presented for each of the 234 species, which currently breed in the country. The information on distribution of each species in approximately 3000 grid squares is primarily based on the field data collected by more than 1200 volunteer observers.

Maps are accompanied by species accounts written by nearly one hundred leading Polish ornithologists. Basic data presented for each species involve information on habitat preferences, breeding area, vertical range, regional numbers with most important breeding sites, typical within-habitat and landscape densities, as well as on population sizes and trends over the last decades (both additionally described in a separate chapters).

The book is divided into two parts: Polish and English; the latter includes an extensive summary and shortened species accounts (over 65 pages in total) with generalized maps.

The book constitutes an excellent source of information not only for professional ornithologists, but also for amateur birders, many of which participated in data collection. Detailed data will surely provide necessary information for scientists involved in protection of national avifauna.
