About this book

This multi-artist printmaking book covers all forms of water bird, and features contributions from more than 50 artists with a taste for wildfowl, waders, seabirds and reedbed dwellers. This follows Mascot Media's owl-themed book The Elegant Fowl in a series of bird-based titles, and is due to
be launched at the North Norfolk Birdscapes Gallery during its annual Wildlife Printmaking show in May. Apart from prints by Robert Greenhalf and Julia Manning, it will feature a diverse portfolio of linocuts, wood engravings, collagraphs, woodcuts, screenprints and etchings from some of the greatest contemporary wildlife artists and printmakers. Unlike the previous titles in the family, this one eschews our normal ‘artist-by-artist’ approach and is instead presented ‘bird-by-bird’. There are 70 species, arranged alphabetically, with sections from Avocet to Whimbrel. This allows us to compare and contrast the highly varied work of a number of artists within each section, bringing together all of the interpretations of Kingfishers, Lapwings, and Oystercatchers.
