World Herbal Encylopedia will be a large encyclopedia on medicinal plants of the world, to be published in three, multi-volume parts, covering both Indian medicinal plants, and those outside of India. Taken together, this work will cover some 67,400 medicinal plants, found worldwide. This series compiles and arranges information that was previously scattered in many different sources, based on extensive research and data collected from various published, unpublished, handwritten and rare manuscripts, including Ayurvedic texts, but also information that was passed on verbally.
Part 1 deals with all the medicinal plants described in classical Ayurvedic texts (encompassing about 1000 plants), this first volume specificaly dealing with angiosperms. Information is included on plant morphology, experimentimental pharmacological studies, chemical constitutions, medicinal properties, toxicological effects, and various medicinal uses in different medicine systems. The book includes current botanical names, local names, ancient Sanskrit names. and others.
