BTO Bird Atlas 2007-11 and its offspring

The Chobe Companion - Sandor Books
Pete Hancock and Richard Randall have been involved in tourism and wildlife in Botswana for over 25 years, and started Sandor Books in 2014 as a publishing company to promote knowledge about all aspects of Botswana’s natural history.
Their first publishing venture is a series of all-in-one guide books to animals and plants in Chobe (published as Chobe Companion in 2014 - see left), Okavango, and Kalahari (the latter two currently in preparation as Okavango Companion and Kalahari Companion).

Siri Scientific Press - a publisher profile
David Penney set up Siri Scientific Press in 2008, as a vehicle for his book on spiders fossilised in amber in the Dominican Republic. Dr Penney is a world expert on fossil spiders, and the book was very well received with excellent reviews and hundreds of copies sold.
Since then Siri Scientific Press has quickly grown in stature and is regularly producing important contributions to several natural science disciplines, including one of our favourites from 2014, Trilobites of the World.

Top ten new species for 2015
SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) has recently announced its annual list of 10 new species named in the last year. The list highlights the undiscovered biodiversity on Earth, which scientists believe may amount to 10 million species. The 2015 list includes a frog that lays tadpoles, and a cartwheeling spider (watch the video to see it in action!).
Permanent protection for 'breathtaking' wildlife diversity in Madagascar
Two wetlands and one rainforest have had their protected status made permanent by the Madagascar government. Asity Madagsacar (Birdlife in Madagascar) has been instrumental for several years in managing the nearly 800,000 ha of land, which collectively provides a home for many threatened species, including critically endangered bird species.
Communicating ecology – a new BBC initiative
Interesting developments at BBC Earth, where the challenge of communicating ecology and its dynamics is underway. Have a look at this brilliant YouTube video on plankton, just released.
On a similar theme, Plankton: Wonders of the Drifting World is a stunning photographic showcase of the diversity of plankton form.
