About this book

Catalogues of mammalian specimens were previously published by Anderson, 1881, Sclater, 1891 (Collection of Indian Museum), Agrawal and Chakraborty, 1979 (Order, Rodentia, Family, Sciuridae of ZSI, Kolkata collection) and Ghosh, 2005 and 2008 (Chiroptera: Megachiroptera and Microchiroptera of ZSI, Kolkata collection). Catalogue of the type specimens of mammals available in ZSI, Kolkata, has been compiled by Khajuria et al. (1977). The present study includes registered collection of nine mammalian orders viz., Scandentia, primates, Rodentia, Lagomorpha, Soricomorpha, Chiroptera, Pholidota, Carnivora and Artiodactyla available in National Zoological Collection of Western Regional Centre of Zoological Survey of India with all the details (Collection data, external and cranial measurements, distribution of the present taxon and taxonomic remarks). So the document signifies the importance to access the information on specimens of above mentioned groups. Arrangement of orders and species follows Wilson and Reeder, 2005, and Pradhan and Talmale, 2012.
