About this book

The destructive environmental impact of exorbitant levels of resource consumption, pollution and waste production, specifically in developed countries and cities, is no longer deniable and is becoming increasingly worrying. Efforts to find ways to generate sustainable development have intensified. Scores of research programmes and professional teams are searching for viable approaches to, and strategies for, sustainable development; political institutions are in the process of developing indicators of sustainable development. This new book provides a clear definition and an understanding of the true meaning of sustainability and develops a systematic approach for the establishment of appropriate actions to achieve it. The authors have developed a framework to guide and direct much needed new research in the measures needed to achieve and maintain sustainability.
